The Calaveras Council of Governments is in the process of developing an Active Transportation and Recreational Trails Plan. We need your input – learn more and get involved today!
WHAT IS AN ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION AND RECREATIONAL TRAILS PLAN?
This Active Transportation and Recreational Trails Plan (ATRTP) will develop a vision for walking, biking, and hiking for transportation and recreation. This may include plans for new sidewalks, bike paths, street crossings, and trail access improvements.
WHY DO WE NEED A PLAN?
The purpose of the ATRTP is to provide Calaveras County with a blueprint for improving and expanding walking, biking, and hiking access. Identifying and prioritizing safe active transportation and recreational trails access will support a healthy, active and accessible community.
The plan will look at existing conditions to understand current infrastructure and behavior to assess deficiencies and develop appropriate solutions.
Through a collaborative process with local stakeholders and the community, an ultimate list of prioritized projects will be produced to serve as a guide for future walking, biking and recreational trail investments in Calaveras County.
NEXT STEPS
The immediate next steps are to engage with communities in Calaveras County to help us understand the needs and desires for active transportation and recreation.
Community engagement will help us discover:
• How and where residents and employees currently travel to work, school, recreation, and services.
• What the recreational priorities are for residents and visitors.
• Where people currently walk and bike for transportation, exercise, or for fun.
• What would make people feel safer and more willing to walk and bike in Calaveras County.
